Some weeks ago, I was hanging out with a mom friend and we were cooking together.
As we were in the kitchen, and finished one thing, she would rinse the bowl or item and load it in the dishwasher. I stood there marveling. And asked her about it. She explained that her process was to load the dishwasher throughout the day, run it over night, have clean dishes by morning and then unload it, so the space would then become available to be able to go through the process again.
I don’t know if I ever really learned a dishwasher process, and I try to maximize the use of things. Also, my tendency is to wait until the last minute when I needed it, so I would end up with a too full sink, a still full dishwasher that I was using one item at a time and then when washing time came, being completely overwhelmed with what I had to do.
At the time of being at her house, I was also already in the process of getting a new dishwasher, so I told myself I’d try her process.
It’s been night and day for me. And, somehow has also creeped into other areas of my life.
My thing has been to wait until I have a lot of time to do a big job, but, doing it this way, I spend a few minutes at one time, and then I no longer have to find big amounts of time and I am no longer overwhelmed when it’s time to do the task.
Would you believe this same principle can apply to your spiritual life too?
I encourage you, spend a few moments in quiet, reloading yourself on what God says. It will take the overwhelm out of your day to day and give you a peace that passes all understanding. This works far better than trying to pack everything in when you’re already overwhelmed with life.
Try it and let me know how it goes. Both the dishwasher and spending quiet time daily.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that there are lessons everywhere, if we simply pay attention. Help us to slow down so that we can hear what you have to say, and so that you can take the overwhelm out of our lives.
